So you’re having a baby. You are having a baby in Amsterdam and you’re an expat. Maybe it’s your first. Maybe its a while since you had your other child(ren) – you’d like a “refresher”. A book about pregnancy/birth/postpartum and beyond. You go to google….HOW many books?!?!?! HOW many articles?!?!?!

Please find below some book recommendations that friends, clients and myself have found to be gentle, compassionate, informative and evidence based.

‘Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth’ by Ina May Gaskin

‘Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering‘ by Sarah Buckley

‘The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth’ by Henci Goer

‘When Survivors Give Birth’ by Penny Simkin

‘A – Z for a Healthy Pregnancy and Natural Childbirth’ by Jacky Bloemraad-de Boer

Please also find some specific information from different expat forums and other doula and birth worker peers in Amsterdam centred around the theme of “what you need to know about having a baby in Amsterdam”

From Amsterdam Mamas (a wonderful community of local and expat parents in Amsterdam and the surrounding areas set up by parents and for parents) a couple of articles on “Maternity Matters”

A factual information post from Expatica “Having-a-baby-in-the-Netherlands”
